  • Remember to consider the venue’s proximity to public transport when you choose where to hold your event. It might be a good idea for you to practise catching public transport to see how easy it would be for the guests to do the same.
  • It’s a great idea to include maps, timetables and suggested routes to encourage guests to take public transport. To ensure guests are not tempted to drive, why not include a ‘Day Tripper’ in the registration package, so that everything is taken care of.
  • Ensure you estimate guest numbers as accurately as possible, that way you will be reducing the excess amounts of food waste generated from the event.
  • Make sure you provide the facilities to reduce, reuse or recycle where possible at event, every bit makes a difference.
  • It’s not a bad idea to send out invitations and receive RSVPs electronically. Most people are connected to their email more than any other communication medium, and you will greatly minimise the amount of paper used. If it is necessary for you to send out printed information to your guests, make sure you print a reminder for guests to recycle them.
  • At the event try to encourage your guests to hold onto the same glass and plates, that way you’re minimising the amount of washing up which means reducing the amount of water used!
  • Instead of having the air-conditioning on, just open the windows. It’s also a good idea to hold your event during the day, that way you don’t need to have all the lights on. If the event is held at night, try using candles and LED lighting to create ambience and reduce energy consumption.
  • If you are creating gift bags, make sure you use eco-friendly green bags so that they can be reused. These are quite fashionable and can be printed with company logos.
  • If there is information the guests need to receive such as programs and handouts, try collating this data onto a disk or USB stick. Your guests will be grateful at the minimised amount they need to carry!
